The idea
One camera captures a figurine while three phones illuminate it from different directions; later, adjust the real lighting contributions.
How it works
- Keep a small subject and camera stationary in a dim room.
- Trigger three light phones in sequence to capture distinct real contributions.
- Combine the measurements and adjust left, right, and rim light as separate layers.
AI’s role: Help separate the measured illumination contributions and label light directions; compositing preserves the photographed subject rather than inventing a repaint.
First demonstration
Photograph a figurine with three real light contributions, then shift their relative strength in a simple relighting interface.
What to solve next
How sparse can the light directions be before relighting looks wrong, and how should moving subjects be handled?
