The idea
Sideline phones synchronize a play, estimate their camera positions, and let a viewer drag a virtual camera around the recorded action.
How it works
- About six people record the same game from different sideline positions.
- Synchronize clips and estimate camera locations from overlapping visual observations.
- Let a viewer scrub and drag a virtual camera through a reconstructed play, with the result limited by actual coverage.
AI’s role: Help follow the ball and identify key moments. Camera calibration and any view between recordings require explicit geometric reconstruction and remain experimental.
First demonstration
Record one short sports play on six phones from measured positions. Synchronize a real replay first, then compare a virtual camera path against the available views.
What to solve next
How much synchronized camera coverage is needed for a virtual viewpoint to remain useful when players occlude one another?
