The idea
Combine calibrated phone ranging, pressure trends, heading, and coded haptics to suggest a nearby friend’s direction and possible floor offset in a multistory building.
How it works
- Calibrate the phones’ shared pressure or height baseline and establish a nearby ranging session.
- Compare supported relative distance and direction with each phone’s pressure trend and heading.
- Give a coded haptic hint and an approximate floor offset only when measurements support it; fall back when range or direction is unavailable.
AI’s role: Interpret approximate floor suggestions and present uncertainty; measured ranging and relative altitude establish whether a hint is supported.
First demonstration
Test two known devices on the same floor and adjoining floors near a staircase, record range and relative-altitude readings, and compare the suggested offset with ground truth.
What to solve next
How do pressure drift, floor heights, and lack of a common altitude reference affect a floor hint, especially when ranging cannot pass through floors?
